Thanks to the Trump administration there are other alternatives with Short Term Medical coverage that can now be purchased for a full year. Here is my link for NM, NC, MI, TX, OK and VA statuses. William G Bateman.

This Short Term Policy does NOT cover conditions, pregnancy, abortion, annual physical examination, or pre-existing prescriptions (unless you are in a hospital). For many healthy people, they are much cheaper and (once again thanks to the Trump administration) tax penalties are no longer valid. So, even though this policy does not conform to the more comprehensive Obamacare / ACA standards (many people will say bloating), someone no longer has tax penalties to worry about.
There is also a "Sharing Program" available that does not follow the Obamacare / ACA open registration period. Like Short Term Medical, you can register at any time and they have the same restrictions.
